Sad Sapphic Games is an independent game studio focused on small, emotionally resonant experiences that are sapphic in nature. Founded by games industry veteran, and openly lesbian, Lead Producer Rhonda Cox.
It started with The Year I Wrote You, an original Game Boy game based on a real relationship and 366 love letters written over the course of a year. The goal being to turn grief into emotionally raw creative works that could be shared with the world.
Sad games for sapphic hearts if you will.
Rhonda Cox is the founder and creative lead of Sad Sapphic Games.
She brings over 20+ years of experience in the video game industry, including more than a decade in production leadership, having helped ship high-profile titles across major franchises such as Star Wars JEDI: Fallen Order, VALORANT, God of War Ragnarök, LEGO Fortnite, and World of Warcraft.
After years of leading large, cross-disciplinary teams at studios including Epic Games, Riot Games, Blizzard Entertainment, Sony Santa Monica, Respawn Entertainment, and Activision, Rhonda founded Sad Sapphic Games as an outlet for deeply personal work.
Her background blends rigorous production discipline with a practical understanding of how design, narrative, audio, UI, and presentation come together in a finished game.
At Sad Sapphic Games, Rhonda serves as creative director, producer, and sometimes sole developer, shaping experiences that are deliberate, emotionally grounded, and unapologetically human.
